Setting up Email alerts will allow you to receive snapshots of events using your email. These events can be motion detection, IVS, or other events captured by your device. Each event type must have the “Send Email” option enabled to allow the feature to send snapshots to your email. To setup email alerts, please refer to the information provided below.
Step 1: Open a web browser and log into your device. For more information on how to access the web user interface (web UI) for your device, click here.
Step 2: Click on the Settings icon, select Network, and click Email.
Step 3: Enter the SMTP information for your email provider. In this example we will be using Gmail, however other email services can also be used. If using Gmail, type in “smtp.gmail.com”
Enter a port number. This is based on the type of encryption used by your email service. In this example, we will be using port 587, which uses an TLS encryption type. However, if using SSL, the port number will be 465.
Step 4: Enter the email address you will be using in the Username field as well as the Google generated password in the Password field. To generate an app password, access your Gmail account, and click on Manage Your Google Account.
Make sure 2-step Verification is enabled, and in the search bar enter App Passwords. Enter a name for the app and click Create.
Note: Notate the generated password provided by Google. This will be the password used to set up email notifications in your device.
Step 5: In the Email Sender field, enter your email address. Enter the receiver's email address in the Receiver 1 field. If multiple email addresses are being used to receive email alerts from the device, additional receiver emails can be entered if needed.
Step 6: Choose the correct encryption type. Since we are using port 587, select TLS.
Step 7: Click Apply and Test. A test email should have been sent to the receiver's email address.
The Send Email function can now be enabled on any features that require an email notification to be sent. A snapshot of the event will be included in the email notification.
