When setting up a brand new hard drive on your 8 channel Helix NVR, you may run into a formatting error during initial setup. This problem primarily shows up as a format failure on freshly unboxed hard drives, leaving you able to watch live video but unable to save or view recorded past footage.
This can be resolved with a simple firmware upgrade. A firmware upgrade updates the built-in software on your NVR to fix glitches, like hard drive formatting errors, so your system runs smoothly and safely. The latest firmware for your device can be found here.
Updating the Firmware on Your NVR
Step 1: Turn off the NVR and remove the hard drive. Turn the NVR back on and allow it to boot.
Step 2: Once it has finished booting, open a web browser and log into the NVR. For more information on how to access the web user interface (web UI) for your device, click here.
Step 3: Click the Settings icon and select System and click Update, Locate the firmware file that was downloaded on your computer previously and click Open. Allow the device to upgrade.
Once the firmware upgrade is complete, turn the NVR off and connect the hard drive back to the system. Restart the NVR and verify the hard drive's the status in the HDD Manage menu.
